Wooden case, covered with black leather and lined with matching leather and mahogany; green silk compartment in lid for storing letters (labelled in French); 3 compartments in box, one with wallet; one with bone implements (rulers, pen holders, etc.) and one containing ink bottle (brass topped) and pens; in centre of this a small 'secret' drawer is revealed by removing side panel.
