H.M.S. FEARLESS, negative

Built as a Landing Platform Dock (the first for the Royal Navy) in 1963 by Harland & Wolff, Belfast. She was commissioned in 1965. She served for talks between Harold Wilson and Ian Smith concerning the independence of Rhodesia (later Zimbabwe), and also appeared in the film “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977), as the ship that recovered James Bond’s escape pod. Out of commission between 1985 – 1991 due to a major refit,she returned to serve in the Dartmouth Training Squadron of the Britannia Royal Naval College. She was decommissioned c.2000.
