(1492gt) 29 January 1942 : Corvette GLOXINIA, French escort ship VIKINGS and British anti-submarine whaler SOTRA departed Tobruk escorting empty Greek storeships FLORA NOMIKOS and ELPHIS (1492gt) in convoy TA.21. SOTRA was sunk by U-431 off Bardia with the loss of all 22 hands. The U-boat was counter-attacked by the remaining escort vessels, but escaped undamaged. The convoy arrived at Alexandria on 31 January.
