Beech casing with almost square transverse section and a turned handle at the top which appears to be all one piece. It has a viewing slot cut in the casing on the back and front and a lower viewing hole to see the mercury bulb. The glass thermometer has been inserted into the casing and is held in position by a piece of cork at the base. The thermometer has a paper scale printed in black.
