Double-sided rag doll made by a miner's child, South Wales, 1913
Double-sided rag doll made from two different types of blue fabric. Facial features and fingers stitched with white thread. The shoes are made from disks of leather that have been stitched to the ends of the legs. The doll is wearing a black hat with metal braid hat band. The crown appears to be a woven structure with a black coating, the sides are tabby woven horse hair and the brim is made from leather.
One side wears a white cotton dress/pinafore; one white fabric covered button attached to upper centre front. The other side has gold braid stitched down the centre, collar, belt and on the left cuff to represent a uniform jacket. Cylindrical piece of wood (bamboo?) attached to the belt (carved to resemble a police whistle?)
