A fine study of the 4,574 gross ton steamer Grelrosa, built at Newcastle in 1914, arriving at Cardiff with a cargo of pit wood, c. 1936. This vessel was operated by Walter Gould, whose cousin, James C. Gould, built up a massive fleet during the boom following the First World War, only to crash to failure in 1925. S.S. GRELROSA (4574gt). Built 1914 by Northumberland Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, for Furness, Withy & Co. as the MENDIP RANGE. 1923 : Sold to Anglo Celtic Shipping Co. Renamed ARCHMEL. 1935 : Sold to Cardigan Shipping Co., Cardiff. She was sunk by enemy aircraft 400 miles west of Malin Head on the 28 January 1941 with the loss of five lives.
