Roman samian bowl, decorated
Body sherd of a decorated bowl. Form 37, Central Gaulish. Stamped [CINJNAMI retrograde: Cinnamus II of Lezoux, where the die (5b) is known to have been used. Bowls with this stamp occur frequently on both Hadrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall, but are rather more common in Scotland. The panels include 1) A philosopher and the potter's stamp, 2) a vine scroll. Other panels incude 3) a double medallion, with boar, upside down below a bear. The lower corners of this panel contain cornucopias. 4) A sphinx to right in the lower half, probably with the vine scroll above. The ovolo is Rogers B143.
