In June 1979, the uprising of the population across much of Nicaragua saw the eastern working class neighbourhoods of Managua taken over by the Sandinista insurgency. After fighting the National Guard of the dictator, Somoza, on 27 June, during the dead of night, thousands of people, led by the combatants of the FSLN, retreated along country paths to the safety of the city of Masaya, 20 miles away. Each subsequent year, the event was re-enacted. This poster marks the sixth anniversary walk of 1985, in which Alun Burge took part.
