Roman samian bowl
Three very small sherds. The upper zone of decoration has traces of a scroll with spurred leaves, while the lower contains large curved volutes with acorns rising from them. The beads bordering the central moulding are fairly large. Volutes with acorns are a very early motif, occurring mainly on Tiberian bowls. All these very early pieces have typically Tiberian upper-zone scrolls, whereas our bowl clearly had a design of later type.
