Bevin Boys medal awarded posthumously to Reginald Jones, who was born in Pwll Du on 18 August 1928. He went to West Mon School, and when he left school worked as a collier’s boy in Big Pit. When he was ‘called up’ at 18 he tried to join the army, but instead was sent back underground as a conscript Bevin Boy doing the same job as he did before. He later became a deputy manager (‘fireman’) at Big Pit, and served in the volunteer Auxiliary during the Second World War.
The Bevin Boys Commemorative Medal was commissioned by the Bevin Boys Association, and issued for service underground during 1942-1948. Medal in hallmarked silver on striped blue, green and black ribbon. In orignal box (2022.7/2).
