STANMORE (7675gt) : VC2-S-AP2 type vessel built 1945 as MAHANOY CITY VICTORY by Bethelehem-Fairfield Shipyard Inc., Baltimore, for the US War Shipping Administration, managed by North Atlantic Steamship Co., as a Troop Transport ship. 1947 – Sold to Stanhope Steamship Co. (managed by J.A. Billmeir & Co.), and renamed STANMORE. 1947 – Resold in September to P & O Steam Navigation Co., and renamed KHYBER. She developed major engine problems in October 1951, and was towed from Aden to London for repairs. 1960 – Ownership transferred to P & O - Orient Lines. 1964 –Sold to Dragon Steamship Co., Liberia, and renamed COMET VICTORY. 1968 – Sold to Republic Steamship Co., SA, Liberia, and renamed OCEAN COMET. 1969 – Sold to Yung Tai Steel & Iron Works, Taiwan, and broken up in early 1970 at Kaohsiung.
