Casgliadau Arlein

The ampulla is fragmentary and is represented by a portion of the body and neck (with a surviving length of 50.1mm and a weight of 20.7g). The ampulla has broken across its width (with a surviving maximum width of 25.3mm). The neck is open and is of oval section (with a thickness of 8.8mm) and has a straight side. Stubs from the side loops begin 1.6mm above the body and have a length of 10.8mm (4.3mm internal). The obverse face was convex and is decorated with the scallop motif, representing the emblem of pilgrimage, and has four surviving bold and curved ribs, producing a corrugated effect, of Spencer (1990, p59), Type I. The ribs are wider at the base and narrow towards the neck. The reverse face is flat and plain with a bevelled edge.
