R. S. Dalgleish commenced business as a shipowner at Newcastle in 1906 with the purchase of a single second-hand steamer. Two further vessels were acquired by 1914. The Pennyworth was a 10,978 bulk ore carrier built for Dalgleish at Middlesbrough in 1958 and is seen here discharging a cargo of iron ore at the East Moors terminal in Cardiff's Roath Dock, c.1970. She had been built for a specific fifteen-year BISCO (British Iron & Steel Company Ore) time charter and upon the termination of this charter she was sold to Greek owners in 1973. The Dalgleish firm went into voluntary liquidation in 1979.

Bulk cargo ship built 1958 by Smith’s Dock Co Ltd., Middlesbrough (with Doxford diesel engine by Hawthorn, Leslie), for the Watergate S.S. Co Ltd., (R.S. Dalgliesh) Newcastle. 1973 – Sold to Rio Santo Shipping, Cyprus, and renamed KAPPA UNITY. 1974 – Renamed NEWLANDS (same owner). 1975 – Sold to Gina Gardella, Italy, and renamed PISOLO.
