Clog
One (right) of a pair of clog boots made by Thomas James, clogmaker, Ysgeifiog, near Carnhedryn, Pembrokeshire. The sole is made of sycamore with clog and heel irons nailed beneath. Welt and welt nails fasten the high leather upper to the sole. Nailed to the front of the clog boot is a toe plate to provide greater protection. Eight sets of eyelets but laces missing.Short vertical slits in the top of the leather upper, presumably for a more comfortable fit. GBeech 3/10/13
Clog boots had higher leather uppers than clogs, to provide greater protection from water and dirt when working in the fields. In appearance they closely resemble leather boots. This pair was worn by an agricultural worker.
