Amgueddfa Cymru
Coffee machine manufactured in Italy by the Victoria Arduino company of Turin. The company adopted the grand golden eagle as their brand symbol and it became an icon of Italian coffee machines all over the world.
This coffee machine served the population of Ynysybwl from 1909 to 1988 at Cresci’s Café, 9 Robert Street. When Cresci’s Café closed, the machine was saved by two Welsh Italian brothers – Ron and Aldo Bacchetta. The Bacchetta family owned and ran the Station Café and later Bacchetta’s in Porth from the 1930s to 2002. Over the years, Ron and Aldo rescued equipment and furnishings from cafes that went out of business and created a small museum in an upstairs room above Bacchetta’s. Aldo and Ron retired in 2002 and donated their collection of Italian café memorabilia to the Museum.
