Retirement dinner for Mr A.C. 'Gus' White (former Chief Permanent Way Inspector, South Wales Ports), seen here receiving a stainless steel tea service and cheque from Mr Donald Jones (Chief Engineer, South Wales Ports). Mr White retired on 1 October 1971 after fifty years of service with the Docks Board and its predecessors. He had joined the Barry Railway Company as an underman in 1921 and had held posts in Barry, Cardiff and Aberavon but had been Chief Permanent Way Inspector since 1956.
