Roman copper alloy trulleus handle
Detached handle of trulleus, the discoid end of which is pierced by a circular suspension hole decorated with concentric rings; maker's stamp CIPI POLIBI F(ECIT) and graffito on underside. Products of the Capuan family of Cipii occur widely in the Roman provinces and many vessels by Polybius (variously spelt on stamps) from Britain are listed. (McPeake & Moore 1978, 331-4). Polybius' work is dated to circa 65-85AD and this would agree with the present context.
