Early Medieval whetstone
A pebble of fine-grained Old Red Sandstone has been neatly squared and used in a variety of ways: a) the top and bottom surfaces show polish and may have been used for polishing rather than wetting; b) the left side is dished and has probably been used for whetting; c) the squared ends have been artificially bruised or pitted; d) the lower end is markedly facetted.
