"Het a Sgarff" by Pete Jones, a former nurse, reflecting on his experience of working at Bryn y Neuadd Hospital, Llanfairfechan.
"David was a long-stay "resident" of Bryn y Neuadd Hospital. He wore is hat and scarf every day (and often to bed). His hat covered his piercing blue eyes, eyes that very few people got to see. RIP David." Source: tweet by Pete Jones, 06/09/2021
"As a former nurse who worked within an institutional setting the paintings are a very personal expression of my experience of an important aspect of Welsh social history." Source: Pete Jones recorded as part of the Hidden Now Heard oral history project. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Hidden Now Heard was a three year project (2014-17) led by Mencap Cymru which captured the histories of residents, their families and staff from six former long stay hospitals in Wales for people with a learning disability. The hospitals included: Bryn y Neuadd Hospital, Llanfairfechan; Ely Hospital, Cardiff; Hensol Castle Hospital, Pontyclun; St David’s Hospital, Carmarthen; The North Wales Hospital, Denbigh; and Llanfrechfra Grange Hospital, Cwmbran.
