Casgliadau Arlein

An Iron Age/Roman blue glass annular bead that's broken into two halves.

Small globular beads like this originate in the 2nd century BC and and continue throughout the Roman Era.

The bead is globular, slightly flattened spherical form. The surface is not enhanced or decorated. There is a flaw from an air bubble on the recent break. This bead is best categorised as Group 7 (iv) by Guido (1978).

Similar beads have been found at New Mill, Monknash (AC-NMW Acc.91.23H/1) although the Monknash beads are flattened on both sides and could be better classified as Guido's Group 6 annular beads.
