Charles I threepence
A silver threepence of Charles I, minted in Aberystwyth in 1638/9-1642. The mint is identified by a symbol of an open book, which appears at the beginning of the inscription. The obverse depicts the crowned bust of Charles I, left, with III (indicating the value) behind the bust and a plume (indicating that the coin is made of Welsh silver) in front. The reverse depicts the royal shield.
