Paper dressmaking pattern for a child's barrow-coat. Handwritten label tacked in corner with dimensions and the maker's name: 'Jane Morgan / 3rd Year P.T 1898'. Also tacked on is a handknitted brown woollen stocking, labelled with the same inscription. Made by Jane Morgan when training as a Pupil Teacher under the Board School elementary system in the late 1890s.

Born in 1879 at Ynysywen Farm, Llantwit Faerdre, to John and Jane Morgan. She trained as a Pupil Teacher under the Board School elementary schools system during the 1890s, probably at Hawthorn Road Board School in Llandaff North, Cardiff. In 1903, she married John Howells, who worked for the Taff Vale Railway in their Cardiff office. They had two children - Margaret Jane (born 1904) and Iorwerth (born 1907). Jane died of pneumonia in 1911 at the age of 32.
