Black hardback cover with brown spine. A beige label on the front cover contains the title handwritten in black and red ink. Full title: "The Ebbw Vale Steel, Iron and / Coal Company Limited / Particulars / of the / Abersychan Works / No.2" ['No.2' is stamped in black ink]. Inside the ledger, the text is handwritten in black and red ink on white, lined paper. There are also plans on tracing paper pinned and glued inside the ledger. The wrong accession number has been handwritten in ink on the inside front cover.
