Plate
This plate was created by using seven different 'strips' or 'bands' of slate from north Wales and the USA. The Welsh slates were sourced from Penrhyn, Llechwedd, Corris, Ffestiniog, and Dyffryn Nantlle, whilst the American slates are American 'Red' and 'Unfading Green'. The plate is one of a pair, commissioned by the National Slate Museum to commemorate its twinning with the Slate Valley Museum, Granville,USA, in May 2007. Mr Rice created two identical plates. The other was presented to the Slate Valley Museum.
Crëwyd y plât hwn gyda saith ‘stribyn’ neu ‘resen’ o lechfaen o ogledd Cymru ac UDA. Daw’r llechi Cymreig o chwareli’r Penrhyn, Llechwedd, Corris, Ffestiniog, a Dyffryn Nantlle, a llechi ‘American Red’ ac ‘Unfading Green’ yw’r rhai Americanaidd. Mae’r plât yn un o bâr a gomisiynwyd gan Amgueddfa Lechi Cymru i nodi achlysur gefeillio â Slate Valley Museum, Granville, UDA, ym Mai 2007. Creodd Mr Rice dau blât union yr un fath, a chyflwynwyd y llall i’r Slate Valley Museum.
