Gwen John made several nude self-portraits in her room at 87 rue du Cherche-Midi, Paris. She wrote to her friend Ursula Tyrwhitt, ‘I am doing some drawings in my glass, myself & the room … I first draw in the thing then trace it on to a clean piece of paper by holding it against the window.’
