Opening of the new computer room at the Docks Accountant's office at the Pierhead Building, Cardiff Docks. The machine was an International Computers Ltd 1901A. From left to right are Mr Stradling (Chief Accountant, South Wales Ports), a possible ICL employee, Mr Takel (Chief Docks Engineer, South Wales Ports), Mr T.S. Roberts (Chief Docks Manager for South Wales Ports), and the computer's regular operator. The machine would (it was reported) 'substantially increase the speed of throughput for the large volume of various types of data' which were then being processed by the Board's existing equipment.
