Cart hub
cart hub
The hub, the centre of the wheel, was usually made of elm, as it did not split and could withstand the heavy hammering of spokes into it. The wood had to be seasoned for at least six years for a hub twelve inches in diameter. For fifteen inches, it was as long as ten years.
