ss. OBSIDIAN (811gt) : Built 1922 as RIVER ELY by London & Montrose Shipbuilding & Repairing Co Ltd., Montrose. (triple-expansion engine byWm Beardmore & Co Ltd., Glasgow) for Gueret, Llewellyn & Merret of Cardiff. She grounded on Mousehole Island in August 1924, but was later towed to Penzance for repairs. 1925 – Sold to William Robertson , Glasgow (Gem Line) and renamed OBSIDIAN. She survived bombing and attack by enemy aircraft on 16 May 1941 while rescuing injured crew of ss JOFFRE ROSE and taking the vessel in tow to Milford Haven. 1954 – Sold to R.A. Grayson, and renamed ORO. She was broken up at Antwerp in December 1957.
