Plate, soft-paste porcelain, circular shape with rounded foot-rim, cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, a raised edge to the well, the rim notched and lobed; to the centre of the well a circular panel enclosed by a gilt band and covered with an apricot ground over which is painted in gilt the arms of the City of Liverpool, consisting of to the centre a shield painted with a bird holding a sprig of leaves in its beak and above it another bird holding a sprig of leaves, to the left of the shield stands a male figure with a crown upon his head holding in one hand a trident and in the other a banner again painted with a bird holding a sprig of leaves, to the right of the shield stands the figure of a merman with fish's tail blowing on a conch and holding in one hand a banner painted with a sailing ship, below this design is the inscription "DEUS NOBIS HAEC OTIA FECIT" painted on a scrolling banner, the sides of the well and the rim covered with a coral red ground overpainted in gilt with scrolling foliage and white, red and gilt flowerheads, a gilt edge to the rim.
