Saif y bardd olaf ar ymyl clogwyn â thelyn yn ei ddwylo. Mae’n melltithio’r goresgynwyr Seisnig cyn neidio i’w farwolaeth. Mae’r peintiad hanesyddol dramatig hwn wedi dod yn eiconig i Gymru. Mae’n seiliedig ar gerdd Thomas Gray The Bard, ac mae’n adrodd hanes y gyflafan chwedlonol pan laddodd Edward I y beirdd Cymreig.
Roedd beirdd yn uchel eu parch yng nghymdeithas Gymreig y cyfnod, ac ystyriwyd mai nhw oedd disgynyddion y derwyddon Celtaidd. Mae Jones yn gwneud y cysylltiad hwn trwy roi nodweddion derwyddol – barf hir wen a mantell gycyllog – i’w Fardd.
Ystyriodd Jones fod y darlun yn ‘un o’r gorau a beintiais erioed’.

I was deeply sorry to realise that this fantastic work is not on display. The reason why I was planning to visit your Museum was to have a viewing at this stunning painting. However, as I employee at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London, I fully understand, nothing can be displayed all the time. I was wondering whether it is possible to buy The Bard as a postcard. I might be able to find someone who can purchase it and send it back to me.
Best wishes,
Gregory Toth
