Ym 1896, symudwyd y rhan fwyaf o weithgareddau cwmni John Mathias i Gaerdydd, lle sefydlwyd cwmni newydd, sef y 'Cambrian Steam Navigation Co. Ltd.' Dechreuwyd ar arfer a enwi llongau ar ôl ysgolion bonedd, a'r dyma'r cyntaf ohonynt, sef yr Etonian, a adeiladwyd gan William Gray, West Hartlepool, ym 1901. Gwerthwyd hi i Eidalwyr ym 1913 ac fe'i suddwyd gan dorpido ar 23 Rhagfyr 1917.
