Introduction: a manganese iron oxide mineral found in metamorphosed manganese ore bodies and also within gas cavities in rhyolitic lavas.
Occurrence in Wales: bixbyite has only been identified from one locality in Wales.

  • Benallt Mine, Llŷn, Gwyneddŷ: bixbyite associated with hausmannite has been confirmed from this locality on the basis of X-ray diffraction.
