Early Medieval stone cist slabs
This is a thin and roughly shaped fragment of stone carved with a simple cross.
Description; The stone is thin with a wide head that gets narrower to a pointed bottom. It has been shaped quite roughly. On the upper, wider, end is a simple, knife incised, linear Latin cross. It is mudstone, probably locally derived.
Provenance; Found in a long-cist grave for an infant. It was used as a lintel at the western (head) end of the grave with the cross resting face down.
