Taraxacum collection

A major recently completed project has been the curation and documentation of the National Taraxacum collection. This collection was donated to Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales by the British and European Dandelion expert A.J. Richards in 2007 after his retirement from Newcastle University. It is the major research collection for Dandelions in the British Isles and is of international importance.

The National Taraxacum collection has been remounted on conservation grade materials and integrated with the existing museum collection. The combined total collection is now 6189 specimens representing 560 species. Of these 73% are from Britain and 26% from Europe, with a few sheets from Australia, North America etc. It includes 146 type specimens.
