Spring Bulbs

Super scientists come to Llanberis!

Danielle Cowell, 8 Mehefin 2012

Three thousand pupils from thirty eight schools across the UK received Super Scientist Certificates on behalf of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales in recognition of their contribution to the Spring Bulbs - Climate Change Investigation.

An outstanding school from each country was selected and treated to a fun packed day out jointly funded by Amgueddfa Cymru and the Edina Trust.

Westwood CP School in Wales visited National Slate Museum in Llanberis. Earlston Primary School in Scotland visited the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh and Fulwood and Cadley School in England enjoyed a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

Here are some pictures from Westwood's trip on a very sunny day in Llanberis!

Bylbiau'r Gwanwyn i Ysgolion: Canlyniadau 2005-2012

Danielle Cowell, 16 Mai 2012

Mae project ‘Bylbiau'r Gwanwyn i Ysgolion’ yn gyfle i filoedd o wyddonwyr ysgol weithio gydag Amgueddfa Cymru i archwilio newid yn yr hinsawdd a'i ddeall.

Ers mis Hydref 2005, mae gwyddonwyr ysgol  wedi bod yn cadw cofnod o'r tywydd a phryd mae eu blodau'n agor, fel rhan o astudiaeth hirdymor o effeithiau'r tymheredd ar fylbiau'r gwanwyn.

Mae tystysgrifau wedi cael eu hanfon at yr holl ddisgyblion yn 2933 a gwblhaodd y prosiect eleni.

Mae rhagor o fanylion yn adroddiadau Athro'r Ardd neu gallwch chi lawrlwytho'r daenlen i astudio'r patrymau!

  • Gwnewch siartiau amlder a graffiau i ganfod y cymedrau.
  • A wnaeth blodau agor yn hwyr mewn ysgolion oedd yn cofnodi tywydd oer?
  • Sut wnaeth tymheredd, heulwen a glaw effeithio ar ddyddiadau blodeuo ar gyfartaledd?
  • Chwiliwch am dueddiadau mewn gwahanol lefydd yng Nghymru.

Cystadleuaeth Darlunio Cennin Pedr 2012.

Sun, snow & hosepipe bans

Danielle Cowell, 5 Ebrill 2012

What a crazy few weeks of weather we have had! In one week the weather reporters have featured record breaking temperatures, hosepipe bans and now snow in many places!

The high pressure gave us plenty of sunshine and record breaking temperatures but now temperatures have returned more to what we would normally expect for the time of year.

Meanwhile, the temperature of our planet is still rising. 2010 was the hottest year across the globe. For the UK this seems to mean that wierd weather is becoming more and more normal. We have certainly seen some strange weather since starting our investigation.

BBC Horizon broadcast a program called ‘Global Weirding’, it explored the science behind why the world’s weather seems to be getting more extreme.

It will be interesteing to see what our results show this year.

I've recieved all the data now so after Easter I will be looking at the trends and discussing them with schools.

Many thanks to all the bulb buddies that have worked so hard keeping records since last November.

Enjoy the Easter Break!

Ymlaciwch gyfeillion bylbiau...

Danielle Cowell, 29 Mawrth 2012

Annwyl cyfeillion bylbiau

Ni allaf gredu ein bod yn ein hwythnos olaf o gofnodi!

Mae hyn yn y 20fed wythnos o gadw cofnodion - felly llongyfarchiadau i bob gwyddonydd ysgol sydd wedi bod allan yn y glaw, eira ac yn olaf y tywydd cynnes Mawrth anhygoel i gadw cofnodion.

Tymheredd uchaf a gofnodwyd yn yr ysgolion = 25C Dydd Gwener diwethaf yn Ysgol Gynradd Glyncollen, ger Abertawe.

Rwy'n gobeithio eich bod wedi mwynhau yr arbrawf a dysgu am gasdw blanhigion, tywydd lleol a newid yn yr hinsawdd. Diolch o galon am helpu fy gyda'r ymchwiliad pwysig hwn. Byddaf yn dyfarnu bawb sydd wedi cadw cofnodion gyda Tystysgrifau Gwyddonydd Gwych- a fydd yn cael ei anfon i'ch ysgol gan y 14 o Mai ynghyd â chrynodeb o ganlyniadau'r ymchwiliad.

Gwnewch yn si?r bod eich holl gofnodion yn cael eu hanfon mewn dydd Gwener hwn ynghyd ag unrhyw luniau am y gystadleuaeth darlunio sydd gennych. Gweler lluniau o ddisgyblion yn darlunio eu blodau.

Os nad yw eich blodau wedi blodeuo eto, ond mae ganddo flagur, fynd ag ef adref dros y Pasg ac ysgrifennu i lawr y dyddiad agor. Os yn anffodus, nid yw eich blodau wedi agor ac nid oes ganddo ffon yna anfonwch mewn cofnod dim blodau a byddwch wrth gwrs yn dal yma yn cael eich tystysgrif.

Tywydd twym!

Mae tymheredd o 22.8C (73F), yr uchaf yn y DU, Cofnodwyd yn Fyvie Castell yn Aberdeen, gan guro'r record Mawrth blaenorol o 22.2C yn 1965.

Porthmadog yng Ngwynedd oedd y lle cynhesaf yn y DU ar ddydd Sadwrn gyda thymheredd cynyddol i 22.2 Celsius, 72 Fahrenheit. Dyna tua 12 gradd yn uwch na'r cyfartaledd tymhorol ac yn gynhesach nag Malaga yn Sbaen!

Edrychaf ymlaen at anfon eich tystysgrifau ac egin blanhigion mas i chi ym mis Mai. Mwynhewch eich gwyliau Pasg, llawer, llawer o ddiolch. Athro'r Ardd.

P.s Byddaf yn blogio wythnos nesaf yn ar gyfer chi sydd dal yn ysgol - felly cofiwch anfon unrhyw sylwadau.

Eich Sylwadau:

Woodplumpton Primary: Two of our crocus bulbs did not open. Eleven of our daffodils have not opened yet. We are going to take them home today but will watch them and record the date and height if they do flower and send the results after Easter. Our mystery bulb opened! It's a yellow tulip! Ans: many thanks Woodplumpton!

Struan: Unfortunately someone snapped my flower. Ans: Very sorry to hear this Struan - and thanks for sending in your record.

Glyncollen Primary: We have had a lovely, mild week and today it is very warm. Our plants are growing well. We will be sorry to finish this investigation next week but we are going to tell Yr.3 all about it ready for next year. Thank you very much. Ans: Thank you Glyncollen I look forward to sending you your certificates and working with your school next year.

Really warming up know, and children upset to hear about the hosepipe ban, as we have little rain water in our water butts! Gardening Club, Stanford in the Vale Primary School. Ans: Yes we haven't had much rain this year. Hope you get some rain to fill up the water butts.
